Objectives

Teach the usage and need for hard thin coatings of nitrides, carbides, oxides and diborides in preventing the wear of tools and mechanical parts. Brief review of corrosion mechanisms and mechanical aspects of corrosion. Introduction to electrolytic and traditional coatings for finish and protection

Program

Hard materials: nitrides, carbides, oxides and diborides. Relationship between hardness, chemical bonding, structure and deposition conditions. Usage of hard wear resistant coatings, practical cases and case studies. Corrosion mechanisms and pratical corrosion cases. Several forms of corrosion. Electrolytic coatings and corrosion and wear protection
