Abstract (EN):
Calli of Euphorbia characias grown under different auxin and cytokinin supplementations revealed significant differences in the amounts of total triterpenols produced. Although the four main triterpenols, campesterol, beta-sitosterol, DELTA-5-avenasterol and alpha-amyrin, were produced with all hormonal supplementations used, wide differences in the levels of each triterpenol were recorded depending on either the type or the concentration of auxins and cytokinins tested. The increase of the ratio DELTA-5-avenasterol/beta-sitosterol with the increase of auxin and cytokinin concentrations suggests an inhibitory effect of these hormones on the conversion of DELTA-5-avenasterol to beta-sitosterol. Possible effects of auxins and cytokinins on the enzymes of the triterpenols biosynthetic pathway are discussed.
