Abstract (EN): In innovation management, organizations follow internal, external, or hybrid procedures. The openness to external collaboration serves as one of the driving forces of change, transforming public service media (PSM) into open and flexible institutions. Considering this, the study aims to analyze how external innovation is structured in the relationship these corporations establish with their stakeholders. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted based on documentary analysis and interviews with experts in innovation and digital transformation from five European public media corporations: Sveriges Television (SVT), Yleisradio (YLE), Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI), Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), and Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE). The results indicate that the analyzed public entities are undergoing a transition from closed innovation toward a more open approach, employing various mechanisms that foster citizen participation and collaboration agreements with other public and private institutions.
