Abstract (EN):
The present work is the result of the contributions of almost 1000 international researchers on issues related to forest fires. The work has its origins in the 9th International Conference on Forest Fire Research, an international conference on the same subject, which gathers every four years in the region of Coimbra the most prestigious and recognized researchers from around the world dedicated to study the most diverse aspects related to the management of forest fires. The work, in English, is divided into 6 thematic areas: 1) Decision Support Systems and Tools, 2) Fire at the Wildland Urban Interface, 3) Risk Assessment, 4) Risk reduction, 5) Risk adaptation e 6) Wildfire management and safety. The preface is authored by the Chairman of the Conference, one of the two editors of the book, Professor Domingos Xavier Viegas, professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (retired).
