Abstract (EN):
End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) is a public health problem, as its prevalence is increasing worldwide. It is estimated that by 2020 the number of patients with ESKD will increase about 60% when compared with the number of patients registered in 2005. Patients with ESKD have shown high mortality rate, which far exceeds the mortality rate found in the general population. The degree of adherence to therapeutic regimens in ESKD patients, including non-adherence to drug therapy, liquid restrictions and recommended diet is very variable, and are associated with poor treatment outcomes, increased number of hospitalizations and death. In this book chapter, a revision of the degree of non-adherence in ESKD patients, as well as its determinants will be performed. Moreover, it will also include a revision of interventions to promote adherence in the patients¿ population. © 2017 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
