Abstract (EN): In order to analyze Cr(VI) toxicity, Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck cultures were exposed for 96h to Cr(VI) (0.000, 0.100, 0.250, 0.350, 0.500, 0.750 and 1.000 mg/l). Several endpoints were measured by conventional methods and flow cytometry (FCM): a) density (FCM, cell counting and spectrophotometry); b) volume and granularity (FCM); c) chlorophyll-a concentration (spectrophotometry) and algal autofluorescence (FL- FCM). Results demonstrate that, except for FL, all parameters were affected by Cr(VI), being cell density the most affected (lowest EC50: 0.332 mg/L- for FCM). Cell volume and granularity were similarly affected. As for FL and chl a concentration, while the first showed no significant differences among treatments, the latter decreased. Taken all together, we demonstrate that Cr(VI) severely affects the parameters tested.
