Abstract (EN): The mining and quarrying sector is recognized as high risk, which arises from the characteristics of the production processes. There are several risk assessment instruments concerning occupational safety and health that allow tosupport the organizations. In this context, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been widely used in several areas within the mining industry, from environmental issues to fleet management, addressing also, although on a smaller scale, issues related to Occupational Safety and health. Thus, this article aims to present a brief literature review on the using of GIS in dynamic mapping of occupational and environmental risks in mining industry. It is to clarify the scope of its application. For such was searched systematically, information in different databases and scientific journals. In conclusion, it is highlighted the great versatility of the GIS in the mining industry, particularly on environmental issues. They are used in large-scale for mapping soil, groundwater and river contamination. However, concerning to health and safety matters, the use of GIS is not very common.
