Resumo (PT): O Espaço europeu foi e é a soma de territórios com especificidade própria, assente nas estruturas organizativas de caráter administrativo ou noutras que acabaram a definir a forma de ser Europeu. Por isso, o melhor conhecimento da evolução de tais territórios conduz diretamente à sua valorização, à melhor compreensão da realidade atual, facilitando a intervenção nesses espaços. O atual concelho do Peso da Régua é um território com remotas origens. A recente publicação dos principais documentos medievais do Distrito de Vila Real desafiou-nos a conhecer em detalhe as origens deste concelho que se transformou, já em tempos modernos, em centro nevrálgico da região vinhateira do Douro. Percebemos nesta abordagem tratar-se de terras de matriz agrária onde, a presença da alta nobreza portuguesa e de altos dignatários da corte, marcaram presença. Propomo-nos, pois, através daquelas notícias, viajar pelo território do atual concelho, com um olhar retrospetivo e indagador sobre as principais estruturas económicas, sociais e políticas que contribuíram em tempos mais longínquos para o transformar no que hoje é, facilitando a leitura atual deste território.

Abstract (EN): The European area was and is the sum of territory with its own specificity, based on the organizational structures of administrative or other that ended up defining the character of being European. So, the best knowledge of the evolution of such territories leads directly to recovery, better understanding of the current reality, facilitating intervention in these spaces. The current county Ruler weight is a territory with ancient origins. The recent publication of the main documents of the medieval Vila Real District challenged us to know in detail the origins of this municipality that has become, since in modern times, nerve center of the wine region of Douro. We realize in this approach that this is agrarian matrix lands where the presence of the portuguese nobility and high dignitaries of the court, were present. We propose, therefore, by those news travel around the territory of the current municipality, with a retrospective and inquiring look on the major economic, social and political structures that have contributed in more ancient times to turn in what is now facilitating the current reading that territory.
