Summary: |
This project aims the preparation of functional formulations with different natural and active compounds, such as vitamins and polyphenols, microencapsulated by different liquid atomization-based microencapsulation techniques. These compounds can provide extra health benefits, preventing chronic diseases, improve health, delay the aging process, increase life expectancy, or support the structure or function of the human body.
However, in general they are very sensitive and with low bioavailability in human body. Microencapsulation is a promising alternative to improve their stability and bioavailability, overcoming their limitations. The microparticles will be fully characterised (e.g. size, morphology, zeta potential and stability) and evaluated in terms of controlled release. Proper mathematical models will be applied to the release profiles obtained in simulated conditions. Furthermore, the best formulations will be tested using gastric and intestinal
human absorption models. |
