Palestra do DEI: 'Challenges in MATLAB-to-C Compilation'

16 julho | 13h00| B013

No âmbito das palestras do DEI, decorre no próximo dia 16 de julho, na B013, pelas 13h00, a palestra intitulada: "Challenges in MATLAB-to-C Compilation" por João Bispo, SPeCS, FEUP. Para mais detalhes e registo, consultar: http://goo.gl/forms/MgUHJlfxW1 ---------------- Within the Lecture Series DEI, it will take place on July 16th, at room B013, at 13:00, the talk entitled: "Challenges in MATLAB-to-C Compilation" by João Bispo, SPeCS, FEUP. For more details and registration, see: http://goo.gl/forms/MgUHJlfxW1 Abstract MATLAB/Octave is a de facto standard in matrix-oriented high-level programming in many domains in engineering and science. When working in embedded systems, it is common to develop and evaluate the solutions on a high-level language, such as MATLAB, and then perform a translation to a language more appropriate for the target platform (e.g., C). In this talk, we will present the challenges and benefits of compiling MATLAB to C, in the context of the MATISSE compiler framework, developed at FEUP. We will look at MATLAB parsing, performance-oriented compilation techniques and the use of aspect-oriented programming concepts as a way to support multi-target compilation. Short Bio Dr. João Bispo is a post-doc researcher in the SPeCS research group at the Faculty of Engineering, Univ. of Porto. He received the Licenciatura in Computer Systems and Informatics from the Univ. of Algarve in July 2006, and in July 2012 received the Ph.D. degree from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon. He has extensive experience on hardware synthesis from high-level descriptions, including the development of a Perl-Compatible Regular Expressions (PCRE) to HDL (with CE at Delft University of Technology), and a custom VLIW architecture description to HDL (with ITIV at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)). The PhD focused on automatic migration of MicroBlaze assembly instructions to customized hardware. Currently he is working on MATLAB to C compilation, and is responsible for the development of the MATISSE compilation framework. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Disclose your events and projects by e-mail noticias@fe.up.pt.
