Roman Chertovskikh graduated from the Chair of Numerical Mathematics of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. He defended his Ph.D. thesis in Applied Mathematics in 2010 at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. From 2010 to 2013 he was a research mathematician and numerical analyst at the Centre for Wind Energy and Atmospheric Flows, University of Porto. In 2013–2016 he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Mathematics, Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), Brazil and a researcher at the Research Center for Systems and Technologies (SYSTEC), Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto in 2017–2024. His areas of expertise include numerical control and optimisation, numerical methods for PDEs, computational hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, and high performance (parallel) computing.
