Carla Teixeira Lopes got her Ph.D. degree in Informatics Engineering from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2013. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and a senior researcher at INESC TEC. She is the Adjunct Director of the Master in Information Science of the same faculty. Previously she was a lecturer at the School of Allied Health Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (2003-2009).

She is a member of the Steering Committee of the ACM SIGIR Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval (CHIIR) and an Associate Editor of the ACM Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage. She has been involved in several international and national projects. Currently, she is a member of the management committee of EUGAIN - European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics - COST Action (2020-2024).

Her research interests lie at the intersection of information retrieval and human-computer interaction. She is interested in studying information search behavior and developing tools that help people search more successfully. Lately, she has been focused on improving health consumers' experience searching the Web and exploring linked data in the cultural heritage domain.
