Current position: Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Full member of the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research

Education: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1974);  PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (1992).

Main research interests/skills: Hydraulics; River hydraulics; Hydrology; Water Resources; Fluid Mechanics; Transport and sedimentation processes; Water Resources Management under Extreme Conditions (drought and floods); Water Resources Planning and Management, namely in transboundary rivers (mainly for the Iberian Peninsula); river rehabilitation

Years of relevant experience: 47

Main activities: Investigator-in-charge of 4 research projects and member of the team of 6 research projects in the area of river hydraulics and of extreme hydrological events; supervisor of 9 doctoral thesis and 2 post-doctoral vocational specialization courses; author of more than 150 scientific and technical publications. Coordinator of two different work groups: one focusing on the water resources management with Decision Support Systems (DSS), and the other dealing with extreme weather events, mainly droughts and water scarcity
