Apresentação Pessoal

Dr. Asma Mehan is an author, educator, researcher, and architectural historian. She is the Senior Researcher affiliated with the University of Porto (Portugal). 

In 2017, she completed her Ph.D. in the 'Architecture, History, and Design program at the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD), Politecnico di Torino (Italy). Her postdoctoral experiences at the important research centers in Tehran (2017-2018, Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), Tehran), Torino (2018-2019, Future Urban Legacy Lab (FULL), Berlin (2019, ZK/U Center for Art and Urbanistics), Porto (2019-2020, CITTA research center, University of Porto) and Leiden (2020-2021) have allowed her to conduct research in the Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian contexts and European contexts.

She taught at TU Delft , and Politecnico di Torino. Mehan received awards and fellowships from the  Municipality of Amsterdam, the  Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences  (NIAS-KNAW),  Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology  (FCT),  Fondazione San Paolo  (Torino), AESOP, EAHN (European Architectural History Network), Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, ZK/U Berlin Center for Art and Urbanistics and Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain (SAHGB).

Dr. Mehan's main research and teaching interests include architecture and urbanism, critical urban studies, urban planning, housing, and Heritage Studies. In terms of geographic location, she conducted research in the Middle East  Southeast Asia, Europe, and the US. She is the co-author of “Kuala Lumpur: Community, Infrastructure, and Urban Inclusivity” (London and New York: Routledge, 2020). Dr. Asma Mehan has also authored over fifty articles and essays in scholarly books and professional journals of multiple languages ​​on critical urban studies, architecture, urban planning, housing, and heritage studies. She has participated in exhibitions and by carrying her practice beyond writing to visual media.
