Rui Pinto was born in Santa Maria de Lamas, Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. In 2013, he received a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from FEUP, and in 2022, a PhD in Computer Engineering from the same school. He is currently an Assistant Researcher at FEUP's DEEC and an Integrated Member of SYSTEC, more specifically at the Laboratory for Digitalization and Intelligent Industry (DIGI2), where he coordinates the Next-Gen Edge and IoT Exploration (NEX) team and has a strong participation in the Capacity Building for Intelligent Industry (CBI) domain. Moreover, he is an Invited Teaching Assistant at FEUP's DEI.
As a researcher, his main fields of interest are Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0, Smart Manufacturing, Cyber-Physical Systems, Artificial Immune Systems, and Education 4.0. Since 2013, he has participated in at least 20 national and European R&D projects. Also, he had the opportunity to supervise and co-supervise more than 30 bachelor projects, Master's dissertations, and PhD theses, on topics related to the fields of interest. As a result of research activities, he has co-authored more than 50 publications.
He is a habitual reviewer of IEEE Access journal and other relevant scientific conferences such as IEEE ETFA, IEEE INDIN, IEEE ICELIE and ISM. He holds an h-index of 13 (Google Scholar), with +435 citations.
