Apresentação Pessoal

Andry Maykol Pinto received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto. He is currently an Associated Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP).

He is also a Senior Researcher and a Steering Committee member at INESC TEC, responsible for providing strategic guidance, oversight, and decision-making for the organization.

Additionally, he leads the MOTUS Robotics group, which develops AI and perception systems for the next generation of Robotics-based O&M solutions, aimed at removing humans from dangerous, dirty, and dull situations. His R&D activity has already resulted in several major outcomes:

  • The design and installation of the first Test Center for Robotics O&M in Europe—ATLANTIS Test Centre in 2022.
  • Becoming the world’s first institution to demonstrate autonomous technology for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle) in a floating offshore wind farm in the Atlantic in 2023.
  • Demonstration of multiple USV and UAV technologies in the largest artificial water reservoir in Europe in 2024.

His scientific work promotes a research line related to robotic-based O&M, aimed at revolutionizing inspection and maintenance practices in industries such as offshore wind farms (OWF) and photovoltaic (PV) power plants through the strategic integration of advanced robotics technologies. His main research interests lie in the areas of Computer Vision, Mobile Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence.

He has been the project coordinator of large European projects, namely ATLANTIS (Horizon 2020) and AEROSUB (Horizon Europe), and is a principal investigator of the TALOS project (Horizon Europe).

He is the co-author of over 50 scientific publications, many of which have been published in top-ranked scientific journals, and holds 3 patents, demonstrating his commitment to pushing the boundaries of robotic capabilities and paving the way for truly autonomous systems.
