Assistant Professor (2002) in the Civil Engineering Department, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto – FEUP.
Graduated (1985) in Civil Engineering and PhD (2002) in Hydraulics / Civil Engineering, by FEUP.
Main research interests / competences: Fluvial Hydraulics with a focus on hydrological and flood and risk evaluation. Water resources management, with a focus on hydroelectric. Water distribution systems and wastewater drainage systems analysis and development.
He is an effective member of the Chamber of Engineers (Professional Certificate No. 38108) and member of the Specialized Committee of River Hydraulics of the Portuguese Water Resources Association – APRH.
Hydraulic Engineer, Designer and Investigator at IHRH – Institute of Hydraulics and Water Research – FEUP (1988 - 2002), as Developer, Project and Design Manager of several Mini - Hydropower plants, Rehabilitation Manager of Hydropower Plants, Consulting on feasibility studies for hydropower development in Portugal, on Hydrologic, River Floods and Risk Analysis, Environmental studies, Water distribution systems analisys and development, Water-hammer specialist and on wastewater drainage systems.
In recent years he has been devoted to the areas of water resource engineering, hydrology, river floods and risk evaluation, hydraulic structures, energy technology, including renewable energies such as hydroelectric, and also on water distribution systems and on wastewater drainage systems.
Within PRODEC, LEC, MEC (Civil Engineering), LEA and MEA (Environmental Engineering) he supervised 22 MSc dissertations and is supervising 3 PhD thesis. He is the regent of the curricular units of Research Seminar in Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment, Urban Drainage Systems, both of the 2nd year of M.EC, Hydrology and Urban Hydraulics, of the 1st year of M.EC, Applied Hydraulics and Environmental Hydraulics of LEA and MEA, and General Hydraulics I of LEC. During his 37 years of teaching, he received several Pedagogical Recognition and Incentive Awards from FEUP and was he was one of the winners of the 2020 edition of the “Pedagogical Innovation Projects” competition at the University of Porto.
