Francisco J. Restivo (IEEE Member’71, Life Member'2013) has been a Faculty member at the University of Porto School of Engineering between 1970 and 2010, initially at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and later at the Department of Informatics Engineering, since its creation, where he retired as an Associate Professor. He was a founding member of CCP - CIM Centre of Porto, in 1992, a Scientific Director and member of the board of IDIT - Institute for Development and Innovation in Technology, Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, since 1999, and a researcher at LIACC - Artificial Intelligence and Computer Sciences Laboratory of the University of Porto. He is an Associate Professor at the School of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University since 2010, where he also collaborates with CEFH - Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies. His research interests include Digital Signal Processing, Systems, Systems of Systems, Complexity, Data Science, Networks and Education. Restivo holds a D. Phil. degree from the University of Sussex (1981) the aggregation title from the University of Porto Faculty of Engineering (1998) and he has been awarded the Third Millennium Medal by the IEEE in 2000.
