Accreditation of Programme The programme is accredited by the national Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES).

The Master in Chemical Engineering (M.EQ), offered by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), is an academic degree which grants to the students 2nd cycle professional skills in the area of chemical engineering and related fields.

This training offer is almost entirely provided by the Department of Chemical Engineering. This master's gives students the opportunity to learn new skills and methodologies of work, which are in consonance with the evolution of teaching and learning practices in the best European institutions.

The programme prepares students for a professional career in practical or research activities in Chemical Engineering or related areas. Emphasizing a practical engineering culture simultaneously with the design activity, the syllabus offers students the possibility to acquire specific skills in one of the following specializations:

• Processes and Product;
• Energy;
• Biotechnology;
• Environment.

Professional Abilities

From the training perspective, the Master in Chemical Engineering promotes the development or acquisition of the following skills:

• Analyze and solve, in a scientific and systematic way, fundamental and complex problems in Chemical Engineering and related areas, using innovative methods;
• Be aware and apply the available methods for the conception, design, implementation and operation of systems in industrial and social contexts, as well as in the development of new products, processes and methodologies;
• Independently plan and execute research activities, either theoretical or experimental;
• Be able to work and communicate in teams, whether multidisciplinary or at different levels, in a national or international context.

Employment Prospects

In the areas of potential intervention in industry, the activity of a Chemical Engineer may occur both at the level of support to industrial operation, including monitoring and process control, as well as at the level of production management, including operation programming and quality control, and also at the level of industrial management, design and innovation.

The professional opportunities for graduated Masters in Chemical Engineering at FEUP include a wide range of contexts, namely in the industry, in research, in teaching institutions or in technical-commercial activities, among many others, at national and international level.
