The Advanced Studies in Sustainable Energy Systems course empowers students as leaders who can design innovative strategies and execute them in real world situations to promote Sustainable Energy Systems.
The DFA in SES curriculum enables this competitive advantage through rigorous coursework with world-class faculty, including MIT participation under the MIT-Portugal framework.
The DFA, addresses an unique set of multidisciplinary core areas in energy systems. To further enhance our distinctive education model, other actions foreseen within the MIT-Portugal program include:
. Common courses that will be given by videoconference to all the participating Universities
Yearly Energy Systems Research Symposia: MIT and Portuguese Faculty will work to hold (in Portugal) a yearly research symposium to show progress on the work being done in the SES area.
Graduate level training in SES prepares students to do basic research that will:
• Create new knowledge through R&D, promoting innovative product development and technology integration in sustainable energy systems where energy demand is fulfilled with the minimum use of non-renewable Natural resources, considering an wide diversity of situations across the globe;
• Promote new forms of interaction between universities and enterprises, government, and society for the identification and implementation of sustainable energy policies and technologic innovations.
TARGET STUDENTS: • Graduates in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or in other areas since recognized as relevant by the scientific committee of the program.
The objective of the Advanced Studies in Sustainable Energy Systems course is to promote a new generation of sustainability aware leaders in energy systems and economics, and to generate and communicate new knowledge in energy systems core areas. Our focus is on combining a multidisciplinary effort, including engineering and economic domains, focused on energy systems analysis and design in the context of sustainable development.
Graduate level training in SES prepares students to do basic research that will:
. Create new knowledge through advanced training programs (DFA/DEA) and R&D (PhD), promoting innovative product development and technology integration of sustainable energy systems where energy demand is fulfilled with the minimum use of non-renewable natural resources, with consideration of diverse situations across the globe;
. Promote new forms of interaction between universities and enterprises, government, and society for the identification and implementation of sustainable energy policies and technology innovations.
The Advanced Studies in Sustainable Energy Systems course intends to educate researchers able to propose, promote and perform R&D in Energy Systems, including the components of demand, supply and transport, with a sustainability perspective.
It is expected that by the end of the study cycle the students have a profound understanding of the energy conversion chains, of the concept of sustainability in its environmental, economic and social dimensions, and capabilities of modeling and analyzing energy systems or significant components of these.
Research, Development and Dissemination activities at R&D institutions of the Energy area;
Advanced consultancy in companies developing activity in the Energy area.
