Mechanical Engineering

InformationThe course/CS does not admit students in 2007/2008.
The Mechanical Engineering branch is interdisciplinary by nature. Its plan of studies covers areas which are traditional of Mechanical Engineering - Applied Mechanics, Thermal Sciences, Materials - as well as more recently Automation and Management. In the first years some fundamental subjects are addressed (Mathematics, Physics and Drawing), and in the last year the student has the possibility of choosing specialisation subjects which will facilitate his insertion in the work market in specific areas. The knowledge gained will allow to obtain positions in economic sectors such as industry (mechanical and metalurgical, textile and shoes, electronics, chemical, ...), services (design companies, teaching, ...), and technical-commercial. Available specialisations (options):
  • Automation;
  • Structural Engineering;
  • Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics;
  • Production Management;
  • Machine Design;
  • Injection Moulding Technology;
  • Manufacturing Engineering and Technology.
  • Professional Activities

    The professional activities of Mechanical Engineers are usually within the areas of Design, Production, Installation, Maintenance, Management or Commercialisation of products and equipments such as:
  • Machines for several uses;
  • Metallic and plastic pieces;
  • Automobile components;
  • Electronic components;
  • Energy equipments (boilers, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, renewable energies, ...);
  • Gas and fluid networks;
  • ...
  • One can also find Mechanical Engineers in activities related to quality control, teaching and professional formation, research and development, standardisation, etc.
