Program objectives and structure

The main objective of the Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering and Management (PRODEIG) is to provide and develop in the students the necessary skills to allow them:

  • Developing new approach methods and techniques for decision processes, which answer to the present and the future needs of the organizations.
  • Adapting existing methods and techniques of Management and Industrial Engineering to solve new problems in new organizational environments.
  • Making comparative studies of methods or techniques of Management and Industrial Engineering, which allow measuring their impact in the organizations.

The programme is structured in two cycles. The first one (corresponding to the first academic year) includes 60 ECTS units. Twelve credits are allocated to the design of the research project and the remaining ECTS units are related to doctoral research training and complementary education in advanced Industrial Management topics. At the end of the first cycle the research project is submitted for approval to the scientific committee of the programme that assigns a formal supervisor to each student.

The second and third year of the programme (second cycle) largely involve research and supervision with further formal training where appropriate.

The research strategy adopted by PRODEIG is clearly one of using theoretical study applied to real and challenging enterprise’s problems. The research results should be of the appropriate quality for publication in internationally refereed journals and for presentation in international research oriented conferences.

Desirably, the research projects will be associated with host institutions, namely industrial and service enterprises, to which the issues under research are considered important, in terms of innovation.
