Programme Aims

Informatics Engineering Master programme aims at promoting highly qualified professionals and researchers in advanced subjects in Informatics and Computing Science including fundamental theoretical aspects, specification, design, representation, distribution and exploitation of Information System and the integration of information technologies in organizations.

The courses are coordinated in order to achieve competencies that may be characterized according to the roles that may be performed:

• Software engineering expert, with technical and managerial responsibilities in software houses or software development departments;
• Information systems expert, with responsibilities in planning, development, integration and administration of Information Systems;
• Expert in the analysis, development and maintenance of distributed applications and distributed Information Systems based in Internet technologies and in the Web;
• Expert in intelligent systems for decision support and e-business;
• Expert in language processing and translation for information representation and retrieval;
• Expert in multimedia systems, technologies and services, mainly in computer image synthesis and its application in virtual and hybrid systems.

The aim of the master programme is to allow to each student the selection of courses that together make competencies in one of these roles. On the other hand, the student may choose any combination of courses in order to achieve a different set of competencies, if approved by the programme director.

About the course

The master programme comprises three semesters:

• The first two semesters with lectures, 24 credits, 60 ECTS
• The third semester to elaborate a thesis under the supervision of a teacher involved in the programme, 30 ECTS

In each one of the first two semesters, full time students will enrol in 4 courses.

Qualifications for Admission

In order to apply to the "Master of Informatics Engineering" registration, candidates need to have a degree in Computing Science or in a similar area covering the following subjects: Programming, Software Engineering, Operating Systems and Networks and Information Systems and Databases. The minimum classification mark is 14 (14/20).
