From the 2021/2022 academic year onwards, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto has extended its training offer of 2nd study cycles with nine more master's degrees due to the adequacy of the integrated study cycles leading to the master's degree resulting from the provisions of Decree-Law No. 65/2018, of August 16th.
For information purposes only, we distinguish the 2nd study cycles between Stand-Alone Masters and Continuity Masters (those resulting from the aforementioned adaptation of the Integrated Masters), since there are some differences in the respective applicants, ranking criteria and documents to be submitted.
Therefore, depending on the Masters (2nd cycle studies) you wish to apply to, you should carefully read the information below regarding Stand-Alone Masters and/or Continuing Masters.

Applicants
Applicants for Stand-Alone Masters
The following may apply to the cycle of studies that leads to a Master's degree:
a) Holders of a Bachelor's degree (Licenciatura) or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a foreign higher education degree awarded after a first cycle of studies structured in accordance with the Bologna Process by a State that implemented this process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher education degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of a Bachelor's degree by the statutory competent scientific body.
d) Those with an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized as attesting to their ability to carry out the cycle of studies by the statutory competent scientific body.

Applicants for Continuity Masters
Applicants will be admitted to the competition if they comply with the prerequisites of previous education defined for each Continuity Masters (see information for each cycle of studies).
The following may apply for a Continuity Master at FEUP:
- Holders of a Bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in Engineering or similar field;
- Holders of a foreign higher education degree in Engineering or similar field awarded after a first cycle of studies structured in accordance with the Bologna Process by a State that implemented this process;
- Holders of a foreign higher education degree in Engineering or similar field with a minimum duration of 3 academic years;
- Those with an academic, scientific or professional curriculum in Engineering or similar field, including:
- applicants who have completed the first 3 full years of a study cycle carried out in a country not adhering to the Bologna Process;
- applicants whose completion of a Bachelor's degree (Licenciatura) is pending the bureaucratic closure of an international mobility process, whatever their Higher Education Institution (HEI) of origin;
- “final-year students” who have legitimate expectations of obtaining the degree by the end of the June/July/September evaluation periods, regardless of their home HEI. These applicants lose the right to be placed in the competition in question if they are not able to register by the established deadlines; (See below "Notes for Continuity Masters")
- applicants who, not being covered by paragraphs a), b) or c), explicitly wish to request the FEUP Scientific Council to certify their capacity to carry out the study cycle to which they are applying. These applicants should previously submit the referred request at the FEUP Academic Services using this template for that purpose.

* Master in Occupational Safety and Hygiene Engineering - Out of the 20 places available in the 1st phase, 10 are for holders of a CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in OSH (Occupational Safety and Hygiene). *The eventual call of non-placed applicants will be made by e-mail sent to the address indicated on the application process. Applicants who are called will have 24 hours to reply and say whether they are interested in the place available. After this deadline, and if there is no reply from the applicant called, this applicant will lose the chance to occupy the place available and the following non-placed applicant in the ranking list will be called.
International students who need to obtain a residence visa for study purposes must carefully check the deadlines of each application phase (namely: posting of the results, enrolment and beginning of the academic year) and make sure that they have enough time to ensure all the necessary procedures.
Ranking Criteria
Ranking Criteria for Stand-Alone Masters
Ranking criteria are defined by cycle of studies (see information for each cycle of studies).
In some study cycles or application phases there may be minimum requirements for the admission of applicants, for example, to have a grade equal or higher than a certain value in a numerical scale 0-200.
Ranking grade: result obtained by applying the calculation formula established in the ranking criteria.
Ranking Criteria for Continuity Masters
In some Continuity Masters programmes a minimum Final Grade* value may be established in order to be admitted in the study cycle.
*Final Grade (CF): weighted average of the ranking components.
Note: In the study cycles that foresee an interview as a ranking criterion, the call for interview will be made by e-mail to the e-mail address stated in the application.
Documents Required
Documents Required for application to Stand-Alone Masters- Identification document (Cartão de Cidadão/ID Card/Passaport) or declaration containing the identification data (mandatory);
- Certificate of completion of a higher education degree (mandatory)*;
- In the 3rd application phase, if you have already completed the course but do not yet have the respective certificate of completion, you should submit a declaration indicating the date of completion and final average expected, and your enrolment will be conditional upon the presentation of the respective certificate on the published dates;
- For qualifications obtained abroad see note (1); - Certificate (Transcript) of the curricular units of the higher education institution in which the degree was completed with indication of the regime (semester or annual) and number of credit units/ECTS. (mandatory)*;
- For qualifications obtained abroad see note (1) below; - Curriculum vitae (mandatory);
- Recomendation letters;
- Photo (optional).
(1) Notes for applicants coming from foreign higher education: In case the original certificates have not been issued in Portuguese, Spanish, French or English, it is mandatory to submit the original documents along with the respective official translation into one of the above mentioned languages.
Notes for Stand-alone Masters:
1 - In the 1st and 2nd phases only the applicants that provide official documentation proving that they have the necessary qualifications for the purposes of the competition will be admitted.
2 - In the 3rd phase, applicants who have completed or will complete the study cycle by the end of the application deadline will be accepted for ranking (except for study cycles that have other conditions for admission). If they do not have the certificate of degree completion yet, a declaration of honour that they have completed the necessary qualifications for the purposes of the competition will be accepted; however, it is mandatory to present the official certificate of course units completed. Enrolment shall be conditional upon presentation of the official documents proving completion of the course.
3 - Besides these documents, specific documents may be requested for each study cycle (information available in the application process).

- Certificate of completion of a higher education degree*. In case of “final-year students”, applicants must fill in and submit this declaration (mandatory);
- For qualifications obtained abroad see note (1); - Certificate (Transcript) of the curricular units of the higher education institution in which the degree was completed with indication of the regime (semester or annual) and number of credit units/ECTS. (mandatory)*;
- For qualifications obtained abroad see note (1) below; - Curriculum vitae (in accordance with this template) (mandatory);
- Motivation letter (in accordance with this template) or Mini-presentation (document with public link to a file in WMV/WMA or MP4 format, maximum length 3 minutes). (Only for cycles with extracurricular appreciation);

Notes for Continuity Masters:
1 - Only the applicants that provide official documentation proving that they have the necessary qualifications for the purposes of the competition will be admitted.
2 - Applicants who apply as "Final-year students" must, in order to enroll within the established deadlines for their respective phase, provide the official documents attesting to their graduation.
3 - In addition to these, you may be required to provide other documents depending on the cycle of studies you are applying for (information available in the application process).
Fees
Application is subject to the payment of a non-refundable fee of 55 euros.
Procedure for payment:
With ATM references
1. Click on the button next to the application fee.
2. Confirm the data displayed and click "Atribuir" (Assign) and the associated reference will be automatically generated.
3. Click "Voltar à conta corrente" (Back to current account) to see the reference generated.
With PayPal
PayPal must only be used by foreign applicants who do not have a bank account in Portugal and exclusively to pay the application fee.
To make the transaction with PayPal we suggest that you use Google Chrome as your browser.
1. Click on the button next to the application fee.
2. Choosing this option will connect to the PayPal website to make the payment.
Note: PayPal payment can only be used for the application fee and payments via PayPal for any other type of fees or tuition fees shall not be accepted.
By bank transfer
Payments from abroad may be made by bank transfer, at payer’s expenses, using the information in the attached document.
Then, you must send proof of the bank transfer to acesso.ingresso@fe.up.pt and tesouraria@fe.up.pt, with the following data:
- Name of the payer and name of the applicant, address, country, tax identification number and the purpose of the payment (application).
Notes:
- After the deadline for submitting applications, applicants have 2 additional days to ensure the payment of the corresponding fee, which is required for the application to become effective. After this deadline, any applications regarding which fees have not been paid will be rejected outright.
- Applicants who have been excluded or not admitted (non-placed applicants) in one phase, and who wish to apply for another phase, must submit a new application and pay the corresponding fees.
Procedures
Procedure for submission of application
- Choose the intended cycle of studies/course and access regime (Applications).
- Select "Submit Application". If you are already a student at FEUP, you will have to log in using your student’s username and password. If you are not a student at FEUP, you will be asked to complete a user registration form. The credentials (username and password) will be sent to the email address you specify on that form. For technical reasons, it is not advisable to use Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail addresses.
- Fill in the application form and attach the requested documents. Please note that fields in red are mandatory.
- Submit your application. If an error is detected (e.g. mandatory fields left blank), the system displays an alert message.
If the information is successfully submitted, you must check all data entered and either confirm or edit the data. - After confirmation of your application submission you will see information regarding the payment of the corresponding fee. For payments made from abroad, please check the information available in the Fees section (see above).
- If you have encountered any problems while submitting your application, you must report them to acesso.ingresso@fe.up.pt during the application submission period or on the working day following the deadline for submission.
Procedure for checking the status of your application
- Log into the information system with the username and password that you used in your application;
- Click on your name;
- Select the academic year of the application(s) you submitted;
- In the options that appear on the right hand side of the page, select "Candidaturas de Ingresso" (Applications).
Procedure to request credit transfer/recognition
- Credit transfer/recognition request (optional) is subject to the non-refundable payment of the fees set-out in the Table of fees of the University of Porto.
- If you wish to create a credit transfer request, in the field "You want to make a request for recognition" of the application form, select "Yes".
- In the options on the right hand side of the page, under "Reconhecimentos" (Credit transfer), select "Criar/Editar" (Create/Edit) and enter the request.
- After creating the credit transfer/recognition request, you must complete and submit the application.
Procedure to request a letter of acceptance
The letter of acceptance is only issued upon request by an applicant who has been admitted to the cycle of studies they applied for. The letter must be requested by sending an e-mail to acesso.ingresso@fe.up.pt after the deadlines for posting of the results indicated for each application phase and no later than the beginning of the enrolment period of the phase of admission.
This procedure will be available through a link on the homepage of FEUP at the beginning of the enrolment period.
