In addition to the academic curriculum, FEUP students have access to a range of extracurricular activities designed to enrich them both individually and professionally.

The University of Porto and FEUP offer all students a wide range of activities, of which here are some examples.

UP Volunteering

The aim is to stimulate the academic community, especially students, to engage in social responsibility activities to promote the common good and greater social justice, on a free, generous and completely voluntary basis.

Volunteering at U. Porto requires both host entities and volunteers to assume this undertaking in accordance with the principles followed by the University of Porto.

G.A.S.Porto

GASPorto is an NGO established in April OF 2002 that develops volunteer projects in Porto in partnership with 18 social institutions, working with children, institutionalized young people, isolated older people, people with learning disabilities, people without shelter and teenage mothers. This NGO also works in Mozambique and East Timor, developing projects in the areas of education and health.

Currently, GASPorto has about 400 volunteers and reopens its annually registration in September / October.

Entrepreneurship Club

CEdUP is the first university entrepreneurship club in the country. It aims to unite and support students, alumni and staff at the University of Porto with enterprising zeal, encouraging the development of an entrepreneurial spirit in the various professional challenges faced by each.

Debating Society

The Debating Society of the University of Porto (SdDUP) is a non-profit organization, founded and led by UP students, who engage in debates as a means of promoting critical thinking, mutual understanding and love of language, words and ideas.

Its main aim is to stimulate critical faculties, contribute to the improvement of rhetorical skills, to the development of a sense of humour, the ability to improvise, the ability to express opinions and to use oral communication as a means of conveying ideas.

Its approximately 500 members organize debates and related training events, and compete internationally with equivalent debating societies operating at the best universities in the world.

FEUP Technicians and Hosts

The FEUP Events Centre manages a team of technicians and hosts who gain specialized training and provide assistance at the numerous events held at FEUP. This activity is properly paid according to the work done.

All students can apply for this activity, but are always subject to a period of evaluation and selection.

Painting and Music Workshops

Painting and Music Workshops take place throughout the year, open to all students, teachers and other staff members:

  • Painting Workshop

    The Painting Workshop aims to enable participants to acquire knowledge of the techniques painting in oil, acrylics and mixed techniques; learn about colour (colour systems, primary and complementary colours); and become familiar with the styles and history of painting.

    The FEUP Painting Workshop is run by Paulo Jesus, graduate in Plastic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto

  • Music Workshop
  • The FEUP Music Workshop is a project promoted by the Faculty’s Cultural Commission which includes an orchestra and a singing group made up of members of the FEUP community. Its repertoire includes pop music, jazz, blues, bossa nova and funk, among other musical genres.

    The group is led by two professional musicians with considerable experience in this type of initiative: Paulo Gomes (leader of the orchestra) and Fátima Serro (leader of the singing group).

Engineering Radio

Engineering Radio is an AEFEUP project entirely managed by students.

TIt is a radio station with a wide variety of programmes, ranging from different styles of music to feeds and coverage of festivals in the city of Porto. The aim is to continue to make more and better programs in order to create a radio station that college students identify with and in which they participate actively.
