Objectives

To address in a systematic way the theoretical and practical knowledge and concepts to develop during the semester the research project in Occupational Safety and Health.

Learning outcomes and competences

- To address in a systematic way the theoretical and practical knowledge and concepts to develop during the preparation of the research project in Occupational Safety and Health.

 - To provide the students with the adequate tools to consult relevant databases;

 - To develop the scientific curiosity and the capacity of apprehension of the reality in each student's particular domain of study;

 - To develop the capacity of identification, evaluation and adequate formulation of problems in the domain of interest;

 - To understand the multidisciplinary of the problems related to Occupational Safety and Health;

 - To develop the synthesis ability in the written and oral communication;

 - Implementation of scientific methodology taking into account the ethic aspects.

Program

The topics of the syllabus are those considered to be adequate for the development of a scientific report that culminates with the presentation of a thesis project. In particular, we may highlight:

- General aspects of the scientific methodology.

- Main steps of the research process: planning, implementation and communication.

- Different  digital tools adequate to the topic under investigation.

- Conceptualization and design of a research project.

- Development of the thesis project.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The lectures are of tutorial type, with the aim of producing an education specially tailored to each student, taking into account the great diversity of the students' academic background. The participation of each student in the general discussions is encouraged throughout the course.

On the other side, students are required to have self-discipline and to show maturity and capacity of producing autonomous work.

The evaluation of the u.c. is of type ‘continuous’, with the assessment in a global form, of the presentation and discussion of the Thesis Project.
