Objectives

Students, in the context of a dissertation topic, and in close collaboration with a designated advisor, will review the literature and survey the state of the art on the problem(s) to be addressed, and establish a work plan with the project tasks to be developed later in the Dissertation course. The research objectives/questions, methodology, techniques, and possible tools to use should be clearly identified.

Competences in reviewing the state of the art, formulating research questions, and their positioning in the scientific literature.

Individual work program, focused on the topic defined, and generally involving the following tasks:

- Detailed description of the problem(s) to tackle

- Literature review

- Formulation of the research questions and methodology to address them

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course is a preparation for the dissertation, so the work to be developed by each student will have an essentially individual and specific nature, which will be developed in cooperation with his advisor, namely in the literature review within the scope of the proposed topic, and the definition of the research questions.

Eligibility for exams

The evaluation will be based on three components:


  1. Intermediate presentation - 10%

  2. Report evaluation - 50%

  3. Final presentation and evaluation of the work by a jury - 40%
