Objectives

Enable doctoral students to clarify and select the topic of their doctoral thesis

Support students in writing their Thesis Projects in their various components.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- analyse a research topic;
- carry out research focused on the topic;
- identify the main publications, as well as the respective individuals and groups;
- critically summarise the previous information in a state-of-the-art document;
- identify and state a hypothesis, as well as the main research questions;
- state the methods, methodologies, as well as establish the research work plan potentially leading to an innovative solution to the proposed topic.

1- Presentation and discussion of potential doctoral thesis topics
2- Support for writing thesis reports / projects:
    - State of the art
    - Work plan
3- Scientific presentations of the work carried out and their collective discussion

Teaching methods and learning activities

Individual presentations and collective discussion in the classroom.

Individual work may have the collaboration of potential tutors.

Positive assessment of the final Thesis Report / Project by the course teachers and potential supervisors.

Calculation formula of final grade


  • 10% Mid-term presentation

  • 25% Evaluation of final presentation

  • 65% Evaluation of report / thesis project

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The same applied to the regular students.

Observations

The collaboration of potential supervisors in the writing of the report/thesis project is possible and even desirable, but the doctoral student's authorship and responsibility for the material produced must be made clear.
