Objectives
Information Systems Analysis addresses the life cycle of information technology-based systems in an organizational context: planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, elimination/replacement. It is intended that students develop a set of skills and knowledge, based on information management, which allows them to intervene in all phases of this life cycle, collaborating with stakeholders from other disciplinary areas. The concept of socio-technical system is the background against which business process analysis methodologies, conceptual modeling methods and systems analysis and specification methodologies are approached.
It is intended, then, that given a situation of potential introduction or development of an information system in an organization, the student is able to participate and/or conduct an analysis process that leads to the definition of the detailed technical and organizational requirements of this system.
Learning outcomes and competences
---------------------------------------
Skills
---------------------------------------
This course will entitle students with:
- technical skills to analyze organizational processes and identify, analyze and specify information system requirements;
- transversal skills to participate in project teams involved in the development of information systems in organizations.
It is also intended that students acquire a socio-technical attitude regarding the development of information systems in organizations, that is, that they see development activities as always requiring a balanced and integrated intervention in technical, organizational and social terms.
---------------------------------------
Learning outcomes
---------------------------------------
By being approved for UC, students will be able to:
- describe the life cycle of information technologies and systems in organizations;
- define what an organization's information systems strategy is;
- explain the alignment between business strategy and information systems strategy;
- describe the activities involved in planning and designing information systems;
- explain how the analysis of organizational processes is instrumental in the life cycle of information systems;
- know how to use conceptual modeling methods to support the analysis of organizational processes and the specification of information systems;

Teaching methods and learning activities
During the semester, students carry out a group project in which they apply the knowledge they have gained to concrete situations. In each practical class, examples are discussed and practical exercises are carried out exploring the topics discussed in the lectures. The practical classes also present and discuss the results of the group project at each of its milestones.

Eligibility for exams
Três minitestes individuais e um trabalho de grupo.
Minitestes:
Mínimo de 30% em cada miniteste e 40% na média dos minitestes.
Trabalho de grupo:
Mínimo de 40% no trabalho de grupo.
Calculation formula of final grade
Final grade = 0.4 * Group work + 0.6 * Average of 3 mini-tests
Group work - A minimum mark of 40% is required in the group work.
Mini-tests - A minimum mark of 30% is required in each mini-test and 40% in the average of the mini-tests.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
The special assessment mode requires that students in this situation be present in classes where there are moments of summative assessment (3 classes).
Group work cannot be replaced by an exam.
Classification improvement
The improvement of the grade of the short tests component requires realising an exam including all the program.
