Objectives

SPECIFIC AIMS: to provide the students with a consolidation of the knowledge acquired in other courses and with practical advanced knowledge relevant to an environmental engineer, in the topics of unit operations for conventional and advanced treatment of liquid effluents, gases and solid wastes. This course also aims to develop teamwork and report writing skills.

Learning outcomes and competences

LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCES. The students will be able to acquire:

  • acquisition of competences in experimentation and scientific research (formulation and test of hypothesis, experimental design, search of information) in the treatment of liquid effluents, gases e solid wastes;
  • capacities of critical and creative thinking in the resolution of engineering problems; conceiving, designing, implementing and operating systems in the enterprise and societal context;
  • acquisition of communication competences (oral and written); interpersonal skills: teamwork and communication.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Trabalho laboratorial 30,00
Teste 40,00
Trabalho escrito 30,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 123,00
Frequência das aulas 39,00
Total: 162,00

Eligibility for exams

Terms of Frequency: (i) the students should attend all the laboratory classes; (ii) the students have to perform all the laboratory assignments and reach a minimum grade of 10 (NP).

Calculation formula of final grade

 Type of Evaluation: distributed without final exam and cannot be evaluated with a single assessment.

Evaluation Equation: the final mark (NF) is calculated by:

NF = 0,6 NP + 0,4 NT = 0,3 AC + 0,3 NR + 0,4 NT

where:

NF – Final mark;

NT - mark of written short-tests, with practical and theoretical questions. The minimum NT mark is 7/20.

AC - mark of the continuous assessment, according to the short-reports, information on the individual laboratory skills, preparation of the experimental work, correct utilization of the laboratory book and discussion of results;

NR - mark of reports.

Examinations or Special Assignments

non-applicable.
