The aim of this course to provide the students with competences to: - identify decision problems; - apply the different phases of the methodology for a decision problem resolution, in particular defining and structuring problems, building models, applying quantitative methods for obtaining a solution - analyse critically the obtained solution - understand the relevance of the role of an "agent of change" in the organizations
At the end of this course in Operations Research the students should be able to:
- identify a decision problem,
- justify the need for the application of an optimization technique
- build an appropriate mathematical model,
- select and apply a suitable method or algorithm,
- be able to analyze critically the obtained results
- apply sensitivity analysis and
- be able to justify the applied technique and quantify the gains for the organization
1- Linear Programming - problem formulation - graphical resolution and sensitivity analysis - Simplex Method - Duality
2- Special cases of linear programming - Transportation Problems - Assignment problems
3 - Integer Programming - Formulations - Solving techniques
4 - Special cases in Integer Programming -Network and flow problems
5- Decision Theory
This course is based on the following procedures:
A1. Theorectical concepts The theorectical concpts are exposed in the classes and the students should learn through study and conceptualizing activities.
A2. Exercises and Case studies Applied exercises and corresponding resolutions are provided to the students in lab classes.
A group project consisting of 3 students (on average) from the same TP class will be carried out, corresponding to the resolution of a problem related to one or more chapters addressed in the course.
Class attendance and resolution of proposed exercises correspond to a weight of 5% of the final grade.
Designation | Weight (%) |

It is needed to obtain a minimum of 7 in 20 in the final exam. The student is approved if the final grade is higher than 10 in 20.
The final classification is calculated based on the grades obtained in the exam, in the group project and in the evaluation of class attendance and participation.
The exam has a weight of 65, the group project has a weight of 30% and the class attendance and participation has a weight of 5%.
A refdit exam will be available to improve the final grade
Not applicable
Special evaluation will be performed through an individual test with a duration of 3 hours that will cover all the syllabus of the course.
An additional exam is available to improve the final grade
