Objectives

To develop the knowledge and understanding about the main areas of Mechanical Engineering. To provide information regarding the main technological processes to design and produce parts in Mechanical Engineering. To promote the insight of new perspectives related with restraining factors for product manufacturing and its interaction with users (e.g. design for all), environmental problems and sustainability. Develop your teamwork skills.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is expected that at the end of the term students will have developed: 1. Their knowledge and understanding of the main areas of Mechanical Engineering; 2. Ability to analyze technological solutions; 3. The ability to know the potential of product development techniques and major mechanical manufacturing technologies; 4. Capability of analysis of a mechanical component or assembly, identifying associated manufacturing processes; 5. Their critical and constructive spirit, their ability to identify problems and to imagine and study solutions. 6. Your ability to develop teamwork.

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Participação presencial 5,00
Teste 85,00
Trabalho prático ou de projeto 10,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 94,00
Frequência das aulas 27,50
Total: 121,50

Eligibility for exams

According to Faculty rules.

Calculation formula of final grade

The group laboratory work will have a weight of 10%. Each of the two tests will have a weight of 42.5% and class participation (e.g., survey response) a weight of 5%. Note: Testing will be possible if students request it. In the other assessment components, student non-participation corresponds to a score of zero.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Examination of the whole subject, individual or group work on one of the above topics, its presentation and discussion, and, if possible, a report on one of the entities visited, its presentation and discussion.

Classification improvement

According to Faculty rules.
