Objectives

The aim of this course to provide the students with competences to: - identify decision problems; - apply the different phases of the methodology for a decision problem resolution, in particular defining and structuring problems, building models, applying quantitative methods for obtaining a solution - analyse critically the obtained solution - understand the relevance of the role of an "agent of change" in the organizations

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of this course in Operations Research the students should be able to:

- identify a decision problem,

- justify the need for the application of an optimization technique

- build an appropriate mathematical model,

- select and apply a suitable method or algorithm,

- be able to analyze critically the obtained results

- apply sensitivity analysis and

- be able to justify the applied technique and quantify the gains for the organization

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course is based on the following procedures:

A1. Theorectical concepts The theorectical concpts are exposed in the classes and the students should learn through study and conceptualizing activities.

A2. Exercises and Case studies Applied exercises and corresponding resolutions are provided to the students in lab classes.

Class attendance and resolution of proposed exercises correspond to a weight of 10% of the final grade. There two examination tests, each with a weight of a 45% in the final grade.

Eligibility for exams

It is needed to obtain a minimum of 6 in 20 in each evaluation test. The student is approved if the final grade is higher than 10 in 20.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification is calculated based on the grades obtained in two writen tests and in the evaluation of class attendance and participation

Each test has a weight of 45% and the class attendance and participation has a weight of 10%.

An additional test is available to improve the final grade: The approved students may improve the final grade by repeating one or both evaluation tests

Examinations or Special Assignments

Not applicable

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Special evaluation will be performed through an individual test with a duration of 3 hours that will cover all the syllabus of the course.

Classification improvement

An additional test is available to improve the final grade: The approved students may improve the final grade by repeating one or both evaluation tests
