The aim of this course is to provide general knowledge about different types of metallic and non metallic materials. Ornamental stones and industrial minerals will be focused in more detail. KNOWLEDGE : - Acquire general knowledge about the different kind of metallic and non metallic materials; - Know the properties and learn how to perform laboratory tests in order to achieve materials characterization; - Know the basic properties of different materials and their major applications; - Know how to "read" standard laboratory tests documents. COMPREHENSION - Make a connection between materials composition and structure with their properties; - Understand materials application based on their properties ; - Identify the general processes of production of different types of raw materials; - Identify materials basic properties. APPLICATION: - Using the knowledge acquired to carry out specific laboratory tests (standardized); - Type laboratory reports, in accordance with standards requests; - Research, documents production and oral presentation in order to develop students' public presentation and written and verbal communication skills. ANALYSIS: - Identify and make a decision of possible applications for a given material, based on their characterization; - Implement tests for CE mark certification.

Students have to be present in at least 75% of the theoretical-practical taught.
1/4 research work (TP) + 1/4 laboratory work (TL) (include s all laboratory reports and field trips reports) + 1/ assessment tests (TE)
NF = 0.25 TP + 0.25 TL + 0.5 TE
Not envisaged.
Theoric exam plus all laboratory works and research work. Practical component of this course must be done during normal classes school period.
Theoric Exam.
The failure by any of the lab work is eliminated.
For approval must be obtained in tests positive average rating and average rating of positive laboratory component.
Any questions raised in this form can be ascertained with the responsible of this course.
