Specific objectives:
To present an overview of some of the actual trends on non-linear systems control. Several control strategies enabling to circumvent process modelling uncertainties as well as to balance stability with performance are analysed.
In the end of this subject students shall be able to:
i) model and numerically simulate the time behaviour of dynamic systems;
ii) account for the always present non-linear plant behaviour;
iii) use Computer-Aided Control System Design tools.
1. Phase Plane and Describing Functions.
2. Stability and Robustness on the Frequency Domain: modelling uncertainties; sensitivity and complimentary sensitivity functions; stability of the closed loop system; robust stability; performance sensitivity; perturbation rejection.
3. Controller Synthesis in the Frequency Domain: an overview of some synthesis methods (H∞, QFT and CRONE); CRONE control.
4. Time Domain Stability: Lyapunov theory.
5. Controller Synthesis in the Time Domain: an overview of some synthesis methods (Adaptive Control and VSC); variable structure controllers.
6 Using Matlab
Presentation of the theoretical contents paralleled by some actual demonstrative examples.
Hands-on laboratory sessions using of Matlab on the synthesis and performance analysis of non-linear systems controllers.
