Program

Organization and formulation of licensing projects. Security Regulations of electrical installations. Conception and design of a licensing project of the electrical infra-structures of a housing estate. This includes the MV distribution network, the MV/LV distribution substations, the LV distribution network and the public lightning network. Rural distribution networks considering their equipments and design. Dimensioning, choice and mechanical stability calculations of electrical poles, and their foundations, for MV aerial distribution lines.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes: exposition of contents using transparencies and completed by the presentation of study cases. Practical classes: - Development of the licensing project of the electrical infra-structures of a housing estate; - Solution of exercises on other topics addressed in this course. In order to develop the referred licensing project, the students are organized in groups (2 to 3 students).

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Exame 25,00
Teste 10,00
Trabalho escrito 65,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Elaboração de projeto 89,00
Estudo autónomo 27,00
Frequência das aulas 70,00
Total: 186,00

Eligibility for exams

Two conditions: 1- Not to exceed the absence limit established to the practical classes. 2- Grade obtained on the group assignment, with a minimum of 40%.

Calculation formula of final grade

CLASSIFICATION = 0.65 x (Grade obtained on the group assignment) + 0,25 x (result of the Exam_Mini-test ) + 0.025 x (result of the micro-test 1) + 0.025 x (result of the micro-test 2) + 0.025 x (result of the micro-test 3) + 0.025 x (result of the micro-test 4).

Examinations or Special Assignments

Exame_Mini-test, focusing on the material taught in the lectures.

Four "Micro-tests" in the end (15 minutes) of four Theoretical classes.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Identical to the evaluation procedure established to the ordinary students.

Classification improvement

•The students can improve only the result of the exam. The Grade obtained on the group assignment and on the four "Micro-tests", can be improved attendindg the course again.

It is applied the general formula to calculate the final grade.

Observations

• Copies of the transparencies of lectures that are provided to students, cover most of the material taught.

It is planned to visit three types of electrical installations.

It is planned a practice session especially dedicated to the accomplishment of works and demonstrations.
