Objectives

Acquisition of skills in: - mathematical formulation, methods and algorithms for power flow and fault analysis. The power flow models include voltage and power control with transformers and FACTS; - basic implementation models for power flow and fault analysis; - preparation of data, use of computer programs, result analysis and technical conclusions on the results of power flow and short-circuits in Power Systems.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes with transparency or power point support. Theory/practice classes in a computer lab to solve problems and presenting study cases, solve power flow and fault analysis problems for realistic dimension systems using specific software (Power World), basic programming of mathematical models of Power Flow and assistance students in their assignment works. One electrical machine lab work assignment.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Exame 70,00
Trabalho laboratorial 30,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 50,00
Frequência das aulas 56,00
Total: 106,00

Eligibility for exams

Fulfill assiduity rules, and achieve the minimum classification of 45% in the assignment works included in the distributed evaluation.

Calculation formula of final grade

Classification = 0.6*Exam+0.20*Assign1+0.15*Assign2+0.05*Assign3

Examinations or Special Assignments

Work 1: Power Flow Work 2 (the report must be delivered by the 8th April)

Work 2: Fault Analysis (the report must be delivered by the 8th June)

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Identical to the evaluation procedure established to the ordinary students, except for the compulsory attendance of classes.

Classification improvement

Only by exam. The classification of the assignment will be composed with the exam following the rule above.

Observations

During the pratical part of the examination the use of calculations TI NSpire (Texas Instrument) range is not allowed. As a general rule, only the use of calculations which meet the folloing requirements are allowed:

- Have no ability to read pdf files or image format (including vector formats);

- Have no ability to comunicate at distance
