Objectives
1 - BACKGROUND
Informatics and Computing Engineering graduates will increasingly work for organizations using information systems to support operations and to support business strategies. It is therefore important that they know the basic technical concepts required to understand how information systems work, and to be able to deploy effective information systems that are aligned with the objectives and strategies of organizations.
2 - SPECIFIC AIMS
The main aim of this course unit is to endow students with knowledge of business support information systems that fulfil users’ needs and the objectives of organisations, always taking into account the short, medium and long term.
In particular to allow students to:
- Understand the architecture of modern ERP systems build with commercial available systems such as SAP, Microsoft Navision, SAGE X3, and Primavera.
- Make contact with the technical details of configuring and using a commercial system such as SAP, Microsoft Navision, SAGE X3, and Primavera.
- Understand the complexity of ERP systems and the areas of the business that they can support.
- Understand the impact that such ERP systems may have on business objectives and how business objectives may be effectively supported by ERP systems.
- Understand which business processes may be supported by an ERP commercial system.
3 - PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Students will need a basic understanding of an organization and of the business activities of an organization. The following courses are also relevant for Information Systems:

EIC0034: Enterprise Management

5 - LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this course students will be able to:
Develop a project plan for the development or evolution of a business information system based on a commercially available ERP system, from requirements specification and design to implementation;
Make simple configurations on some modules of an information systems using a commercially available ERP system.

Eligibility for exams
Students have to reach a minimum grade of 40% in all assessment components, or 50% in the group assignment.
Calculation formula of final grade
P1. Mini-tests: 20%
P2. Group assignment: 80%
2.1 Report: 30%
2.2 Assignment presentation: 15%
2.3 Individual assignment using ERP: 25%
2.4 Individual assessment (within the group): 10%
