Objectives

At the end of the course, students should be capable of:
a- describing and explaining the context of development of new models and processes of business supported by information and communication technologies;
b- explaining the advantages of a process-oriented management of organisations and describing the most important norms and reference models;
c- identifying and designing processes of organisation;
d- specifying, explaining and applying the most important methodologies, techniques and tools which support modelling and analysis of processes in an organisation;
e- specifying information systems, which support business process management

Program

I- Concepts and principles; Models and processes: framework and strategy;
II- Process-oriented management systems: norms and reference models;
III- Identification and modulation of processes and services; Representation methods and process documentation; Information material flow mapping; VSM (Value Stream Map); Examples of application; “as-is” and “to be” models;
IV- Specification of information systems which support process and services management;
V- Process management: models, techniques and tools; Processes and interaction with clients; Performance improvement and management
VI- Support systems and solutions to execution of process: workflow management systems, document management systems and content management systems;

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical-classes: presentation of the themes of the course, discussion and application of knowledge
Extra-classes: individual assignments of limited complexity related with the themes of theoretical-classes
Theoretical-practical classes: Students will have to do an assignment on the analysis and design of business processes of an organisation and the respective support information system. It will be a long term group assignment of medium/high complexity.

Eligibility for exams

Students have to attend to classes and do the assignment, to be admitted to exams.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final Mark will be based on the average mark of the following components:
- Individual assignment (with professor’s opinion): 10%
- Teamwork: 40%
- Written exam: 50%

Individual assignments (homework);
A long term teamwork assignment

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The same as for ordinary students

Classification improvement

Students can only improve their final exam mark.

Observations

Students have to attend to classes and reach a minimum mark of 40%in the written exam, to complete the course.
