Objectives

The main goals are the study of some transport processes and unit operations involving momentum, mass and heat transfer, individually or simultaneously.

Program

1- Study and design of internal fluid flows:

- Pumps and gas-moving equipment
- Flow in multiple pipe systems
- Flow of compressible fluids
- Flow of non-Newtonian fluids
- Agitation and mixing of fluids and power requirements

2- Study and design of the flow through solid particles

- Fixed and fluidised beds
- Elutriation, sedimentation and pneumatic transport
- Filtration

3- Study and design of unit operations involving mechanical separation

- Centrifugal separation processes
- Mechanical size reduction and classification

4- Study and design of gas absorption in packed towers

5- Study and design of unit operations involving mass and heat transfer simultaneously

- Humidification, cooling towers
- Drying and drying equipment

Teaching methods and learning activities

In the theoretical sessions, the principal concepts are explained and some elucidative applications of the concepts are solved.
In the training sessions, the students will solve individually or in groups several exercises proposed which are given to the students at the beginning of the semester.

Evaluation Type

Evaluation with final exam

Eligibility for exams

According to the pedagogic rules of the school, the students must attain ¾ of the training sections. This attendance gives the frequency and the acquiescence to do the final examination

Classification improvement

According to the pedagogic rules of the school, the students can improve their marks in a second examination.

Observations

It is expected a weekly study around three to four hours
