Objectives
Introduce and develop the fundamental concepts of rigid body dynamics: Force, mass and acceleration, work and energy and impulse and momentum.
Dynamic analysis of plane and three dimensions mechanisms.
Program
KINECTICS OF RIGID BODIES: Linear and angular momentum of a rigid body. Rate of change of the linear and angular momentum. Kinetic energy of a rigid body.
RIGID BODY DYNAMICS:
Force, mass and acceleration: Equations of motion of rigid bodies and mechanisms, in plane motion and in three dimensions. D’Alembert’s principle.
Work and Energy: Work of the forces acting on a rigid body. Power. Work of conservative and non-conservative forces. Work and kinetic energy, principle of energy conservation. Virtual displacement, virtual work and principle of virtual work.
