Abstract (EN):
Chronic treatment of rats with the adenosine antagonist 1,3-dipropyl-8-sulfophenylxanthine (DPSPX) induces hypertension, vascular hyperplasia and hypertrophy and renin-angiotensin system activation. Since angiotensin II (Ang II) stimulates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), we aimed at evaluating the mesenteric artery activity of NADPH oxidase and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in this hypertension. Sham and DPSPX (90 mug/kg/h, i.p., 7 days)-treated rats were used. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) was measured by the tail cuff method. Rats were sacrificed on day 14. Enzyme activities were evaluated by spectrophotometric methods. DPSPX treatment increased SBP, NADPH oxidase and GPX activities when compared to sham. We can conclude that DPSPX-induced hypertension is associated with increased vascular generation of ROS.
