Resumo (PT): Desde o acidente do avião da companhia Aloha em 1988, o problema do ‘Multiple Site Damage’ (MSD) de juntas de sobreposição rebitadas de fuselagens de aviões tem recebido muita atenção. O custo de novos aviões implica a existência neste momento de frotas antigas requerendo uma análise especial. A investigação no campo das estruturas contendo MSD tem recebido grande atenção internacional. O objectivo deste estudo é gerar dados sobre a iniciação e o crescimento de fendas, e a resistência residual de provetes de laboratório que simulam as principais características de juntas de aviões contendo MSD. Estes dados serão usados para avaliar um modelo baseado no FRANC2D/L, programa de elementos finitos.
Abstract (EN): Since the Aloha accident in 1988, the Multiple Site Damage (MSD) problem of riveted lap joints in aircraft fuselages has drawn much attention. The cost of new aircraft implies that there are now ageing fleets requiring special analysis. There is a need for research into the field of structures containing MSD, topic which has recently received world-wide attention. The objective of the present study is to generate data on the initiation and growth of cracks, and on the residual static strength of laboratory specimens which simulate the key features of aircraft joints in which MSD is present. These data will be used to assess the predictive model based in the FRANC2D/L finite element programme.
