Details
Summary: The recognition of the production capacity, technology and quality/vision of the textile industry
inspires a continuous search for increasingly differentiated products with superior quality. The
development of innovative high added value products assumes as a mean to improve the
competitivity, but also to provide the client with an increasingly personalised service. Furthermore,
one of the concerns of the textile industry is the adoption of environmentally friendly production
processes together with the need of the implementation of high tech processes.
Project TrueHue aims to develop knitted fabrics with a high quality through the automation of
production process. To fulfill these objectives, it is intended to implement Near Infrared Spectroscopy
(NIR) technology applied to the dyeing process of knitted fabrics. The objective is to monitor online the dyeing bath in order to assure the right color of the knitted fabric. For that purpose,
prediction models for dyeing operations will be developed, though their monitoring with NIR. This
way, the dyeing processes will be fully controlled by NIR, without human intervention. Through this
implementation, it will be possible to obtain jerseys with superior quality, to reduce dyeing times and
to decrease reprocessed knitted fabrics and consequently claims. Furthermore, this technology will
permit a better understanding of the process stages of natural dyeing permitting their implementation
at industrial scale, providing the market with new environmentally friendly textile products.
