Personal Presentation

Ana Aguiar is tenured Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the University of Porto (UP) and researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT). She coordinates the Networked and Information Processing Group and leads the Shannon Lab at IT/UP.
Her research interests lie in the broad area of mobile wireless systems with focus on connectivity and computing for mobile nodes, Internet of Things for smart cities, and data science for smart mobility. Currently, she is looking into how the computing fabric interconnected by 5g and beyond can support heterogeneous services related to connected and autonomous mobility, focusing on vulnerable road user safety.

She operates the crowdsensing platform SenseMyCity, which supports the data donor tools SenseMyCity and CovidMonitor. She led the national VOCE project on voice stress detection, and participated in more than 15 projects, in 9 of them as co-PI or WP leader. She published more than 70 journal and conference articles, is reviewer and co-organizer of several high rank IEEE and ACM journals and conferences, and expert with the EC. Previously, she was senior researcher at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, and RF and optimization engineer at cellular network operators.
