Apresentação Pessoal

Luís Tiago Paiva is Doctorate Auxiliary Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) where he has been lecturing for the last 5 years. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Feb/2012 and he is Integrated Member of the unit SYSTEC (Research Center for Systems and Technologies) – Porto (ISR) since 2014.

In the past, he was Invited Lecturer at Department of Mathematics of the School of Engineering of Porto (ISEP: 2016/2017 and 2021/2022) and at the School of Economics and Management (FEP : 2020/2021). Previously, he had been Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University Fernando Pessoa (UFP : 2008-2012) and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Porto (FCUP : 2003-2006).

Luís Tiago Paiva received his first degree in Applied Mathematics in 2002, his MSc degree in Computer Methods in Sciences and Engineering in 2004 and he completed his PhD studies in Applied Mathematics in 2014, all awarded by the University of Porto, acquiring expertise in Numerical Analysis, Computer Methods, Optimal Control and Model Predictive Control.

He published 10 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, 14 papers in international conference proceedings and he authored 1 book and 3 book chapters. In 2017, he was awareded with the Best Paper Award on "Optimal Control of Underwater Kite Power Systems" and, at the same year, he was awarded with a FCT PostDoc Grant (2017-2021). He has over 100 participations in conferences and seminars.

Currently, Luís Tiago Paiva supervises 1 master thesis and co-supervises 4 master theses in the field of Electrical Engineering (3 at FEUP and 2 at ISEP). In the past, he co-supervised 10 master theses. Between 2003 and 2015, he participated in 14 research projects and he is currently involved in 2. In his research activities he interacted with 24 collaborators in co-authorship of scientific papers.

His major areas of research are in the Applied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering fields with an emphasis in Optimal Control, Model Predictive Control and applications, namely in the robotics, energy and health problems.
