Apresentação Pessoal

Dr. Nuno Guimarães obtained his degree in Biochemistry in 2004 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. He then finished his PhD on Chemical and Biological Engineering in 2011 at the University of Minho and the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto (IPATIMUP). Currently, Dr. Nuno Guimarães holds a post-doctoral position at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and the IPATIMUP. During his research he has authored or co-authored 5 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and 2 book chapters.

Dr. Guimarães main research interests are to explore potential new therapies, using peptide nucleic acids (PNA) and other DNA mimics, for Helicobacter pylori treatment. H. pylori has been his main area of research, and he has already develop a PNA fluorescence in situ hybridization method (FISH) for the detection of the bacteria in clinical and environmental samples.
