Nuno Fidalgo was born in Porto, Portugal. He graduated in Electrical Engineering and Computers in 1984 the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1984, and received the Ph.D. degree from the same faculty, in 1995. He joined FEUP in 1984 and joined the Center for Power and Energy Systems of INESC TEC (former INESC Norte) in 1985.

As part of his collaboration with the Center for Power and Energy Systems at INESC TEC, he served as the coordinator of the Distribution Systems group, followed by leading the Energy Analytics and Forecasting group.

Furthermore, he has been responsible for many national and international research projects, and has authored or co-authored hundreds of technical and scientific publications. His main research interests include pattern recognition, computational intelligence and neural networks and its applications to power systems. He was involved in research and industry projects involving forecasting, systems planning, load and loss profiling, impact of climate changes in the energy mix, losses estimation, identification of abnormal consumption patterns.
