José Manuel Martins Ferreira concluded in 1992 his PhD degree in design and test of digital systems, with an emphasis in boundary-scan testing. He supervised various MSc and PhD thesis in this same area. He was approved by unanimity in his agregação (habilitation) in 2000. His lecturing interests are centred in digital electronics. He has lectured various subjects in this area in Bachelor, Master and Doctor programmes, both at FEUP and in foreign institutions. He was vice-president for academic affairs at FEUP from 2010 to 2013, and vice-rector of the University of Porto from 2014 to 2018, where he was responsible for information management, educational technologies, quality and continuous improvement. From 2018 to 2022 he stayed with the University of South-Eastern Norway.
