The Mechanical Engineering doctoral programme (PRODEM) of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto – FEUP trains leaders in Mechanical Engineering through high level research. It benefits from the tradition of Mechanical Engineering research and education at FEUP and was recently reformatted as a consequence of the Bologna process, also including a component of lectures further to the main activity ‐ research.
Mechanical Engineering R&D at FEUP is carried out in a variety of contexts, particularly R&D Units recognized by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, based at FEUP itself or in R&D institutes associated to FEUP, such as INEGI.
As one of the senior Engineering specialties, Mechanical Engineering represents a vast area of knowledge, permanently rejuvenated through the appearance of new fields of interest and new increasingly powerful numerical and experimental tools.
The Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering (PRODEM) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) aims to train highly qualified researchers in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The training is carried out through advanced study and high-level research on a topic within the broad spectrum of areas covered by Mechanical Engineering. As a result, students are expected to be capable of independently conducting relevant research in the field of their PhD. In addition to scientific knowledge in specific areas, the programme aims to enable students to develop various skills, including analytical capability, critical thinking, teamwork, personal management and resilience, effective communication in diverse contexts, and the application of ethical principles and research integrity. The objective is that the skills developed can be applied to foster the advancement of knowledge both in academic and business environments.
The topics addressed in PRODEM include, but are not limited to:
